Stoneleigh Park has been selected to appear in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide. The venue was hand picked to host overseas athletes ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games, and had to undergo an assessment of strict technical criteria such as the ability to offer high quality sports training facilities, offering comfortable but affordable accommodation, appropriate catering, good transport links and good sports science facilities.
David Barratt, the Director of Stoneleigh Park spoke of his delight at becoming a selected venue. “Stoneleigh Park is an ideal location for an equine pre Olympic training camp. Located in rural Warwickshire, a 250 acre secure site, with excellent road, rail and international airport links. Excellent equine facilities, competitor accommodation, restaurants, fully supported infrastructure and of course the home of all things equine, Stoneleigh Park is the HQ of the British Equestrian Federation. This together with the links to the Royal Agricultural Society of England's, Royal Show venue, provides a unique and important opportunity for any country wanting a prestigious equine training location to train its equine team prior to the 2012 Olympics!”
The guide will be published at the Beijing Games and will contain high quality elite sporting facilities across the United Kingdom, which will give teams and individual athletes a great selection of locations to choose from in preparation for the 2012 Olympics.
Cllr Chris Saint, Chair of the West Midlands Leadership Group for 2012 Games said “Whilst some will be disappointed, a wide range of first class locations in the West Midlands are included in the Guide. As a region, we have a superb mix of community based and world-class sporting facilities that we are justifiably proud of”.
